JUNEAU – Alaskan Brewing Company brings home honors for its Alaskan ESB and Alaskan Smoked Porter from the nation’s most prestigious beer competition this weekend in Denver, Colorado.
The Alaskan Brew Crew toasts their success during the 2004 Great American Beer Festival. The Great American Beer Festival awarded a Silver medal to Alaskan ESB in the Extra Special Bitter category. Judges also awarded a Bronze medal to the Alaskan Smoked Porter in the Smoked-flavored beer category. Neither beer is a stranger to the winners list as these two beers have won 21 medals at the GABF beginning in 1988.

“This is a credit to our brew crew,” said Marcy Larson, Alaskan co-founder. “They consistently produce world class beers, year after year after year. This is very exciting for all of us.”

The Great American Beer Festival is considered by many in the industry to be the “Olympics” of American breweries. A professional panel of brewers, industry members, writers and beer experts judge the beers in a series of blind tastings and announce the winners on the last day of the festival.

Alaskan Brewing was joined by two Anchorage-based breweries in the winner’s corner. Glacier Brewhouse brought home a Gold medal for their Old Woody in the Barley Wine category and Moose’s Tooth Brewing returned to Alaska with a Bronze medal for their Fairweather IPA in the India Pale Ale category.

“There are a lot of great beers being brewed in Alaska,” says Larson. “We are very happy for Moose’s Tooth and Glacier Brewhouse and the presence of other breweries in Alaska that help showcase our state on a national level.”

Celebrating 18 years of brewing world class beer, Alaskan Brewing has won a total of 30 medals at the Great American Beer Festival, more than any other craft brewery. Their distribution extends throughout Alaska and down the West Coast with new markets opening in S. California and Nevada in the last year.
