JUNEAU - Alaskan Smoked Porter brought home a silver medal from London at the Brewing Industry International Awards 2004 this week. The recognition joins two bronze medals awarded at the World Beer Cup for Alaskan Winter Ale and Smoked Porter last month.
“We feel incredibly honored to be recognized on an international level in two such prestigious competitions,” says Alaskan’s co-founder, Marcy Larson. “This serves as a reminder that our crew brews beers that are among the best in the world!”
The World Beer Cup medal is the first international medal for Alaskan Winter Ale and this year’s wins bring the tally to nine for the Alaskan Smoked Porter. Most Alaskan beers have been awarded numerous medals in domestic competitions.
The 2004 Awards Ceremony took place at the Brewing, Food & Beverage Industry Suppliers Association’s (BFBi) National Luncheon at the historic Guildhall on May 25, before an international audience of 600 members of the brewing industry, media and other guests. The Brewing Industry International Awards is global and recognizes excellence in 8 categories made up of 24 classes and a field of 822 entries. The world’s oldest beer competition, the awards have been occurring since 1886 and are commonly referred to as the ‘Oscars of the brewing industry’.
The Association of Brewers (AOB) World Beer Cup® 2004 is a global beer competition that evaluates beers from around the world and recognizes the most outstanding beers being produced in the world today. World Beer Cup 2004 winners were selected by an international panel of 93 beer judges from an impressive field of 1,566 entries received from 393 breweries in 40 countries.
The Alaskan Brew Crew produces Alaskan Amber, Pale, ESB and Stout year round in addition to a distinguished line of seasonal beers. Founded in 1986, the Juneau-based brewery is distributed throughout Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, California and Nevada. Alaskan Brewing also distributes both Alaskan Winter Ale and Alaskan Smoked Porter in the United Kingdom on a limited basis.
