Shannon: Born and Brewed in Juneau Print E-mail
Most of us have our unique stories of pilgrimage to that got us to our home at the Alaskan Brewery, but Shannon is one of the few Brew Crew members that was born and raised in Juneau. As with many employees, she came to work for the Brewery on the referral of a family friend, and started her career in the Brewery accounting department almost 16 years ago.

Wshannon_kenthen she's not crunching numbers at work, she enjoys fishing, hunting, hiking, playing softball, cooking and traveling - preferably to sunny locations where she can relax poolside with a book and cold Alaskan beer. Shannon is also a Certified Beer Judge, helping out at home brewing competitions and exams, and while she has seen her share of brews pass through our facility, her favorites are Alaskan IPA, Double Black IPA, and Jalapeno IPA.

Despite her love of faraway sunshine she's a true Alaskan girl. One of the most uniquely Alaskan moments from her teen years involves a kayaking trip with her family to Admiralty Island. They had to paddle against the current, didn't pack enough food or sunscreen, and actually ended up rationing their supply of Pringles. However, the pay-off was worth it, as they encountered lots of brown bears in the famous habitat, and got to know Stan Price, for whom the area's Pack Creek sanctuary is now named.

She has lots of Alaskan memories with the Brew Crew as well, though one of her favorites is a beach clean-up in Yakutat when she had the opportunity to go boogie boarding in the Gulf of Alaska. The beach was amazing (for and despite being a true Alaskan girl, she had never before spent more than a minute or two in the waters of the SE Alaska), and thanks to the obligatory wet suit she was able to spend an hour or two surfing the frigid coast.

Shannon's also a devoted mother often seen rooting on her daughters at their tennis and soccer games, and later this year she, her husband and their girls to New Orleans and Disney World in the upcoming months, honoring the long-held Juneau tradition of leaving when the rains arrive!
