JUNEAU –Alaskan Brewing Company is releasing the 2003 vintage year of Alaskan Smoked Porter throughout the Pacific Northwest and California in November.

The single most award-winning beer in the country at the nation’s prestigious Great American Beer Festival, Alaskan Smoked Porter has 12 medals to its credit and a cameo on the recent Food Network special about the Great American Beer Festival.

“The first few years of the Great American Beer Festival, we only had a few bottles stashed under the table and folks ‘in-the-know’ would come up and whisper, “Psst…Smoke””, says Alaskan co-founder, Marcy Larson. “Funny thing is, there are still folks that do that and the Smoked Porter runs out every tasting session so consumers usually hit our booth early!”

Brewed only once each year in small amounts, this limited edition beer can be successfully aged. This aging allows a unique blend of plum, raisin, and sherry notes to emerge as it continues to develop in the bottle over the years. Popular for the unique smoky flavor of indigenous alder wood when first brewed, Alaskan Smoked Porter has been credited with starting a revival of smoked beers in the United States.

“We receive phone calls and emails from around the world looking for this beer,” says co-founder Marcy Larson. “Alaskan Smoked Porter’s international reputation as well as the cult-like following is very exciting for a small brewery like ours.”

Celebrating 17 years of brewing world class beer, the Juneau-based brewery produces Alaskan Amber, Pale, ESB, and Stout year round. Alaskan Winter Ale and Smoked Porter make regular fall and winter appearances in limited amounts. Distribution extends throughout the Pacific Northwest and most recently Southern California.
