Alaskan Brewing Co. wins 3 medals at LA County Fair

JUNEAU, ALASKA — September 8, 2006 — The Alaskan Brewing Co. won three medals in the commercial beer competition at the LA County Fair. Alaskan Amber won a gold in the Irish-style Red Ale category, Alaskan Smoked Porter a silver in the Smoked Beer category and Alaskan Summer Ale a silver in the German-style Kölsch category.

“We’re so excited that all three beers that we entered have won medals,” said Alaskan Plant Manager Curtis Holmes. “The medals prove that our efforts to make great beers don’t go unappreciated. More than 1.5 million people usually attend this fair, and we hope to share our award-winning beers with them during the sampling sessions.”

Fairgoers can taste these Alaskan award-winning brews, as well as other winners, during the fair, which opens today and runs through Oct. 2. Beer competition coordinator Dick Emmerson estimated 40 local and national breweries participated this year, the sixth year of the competition. Samples are available at the Beer Tavern, with a portion of the proceeds supporting a local college scholarship fund.

Alaskan Amber, Alaskan Summer Ale and Alaskan Smoked Porter are all available throughout California. Alaskan Brewing Co. first entered the California market in 1997.
