“Our ESB is one of the Brew Crew’s favorite products, so it is with a sad voice that we say it is coming off our main line,” says Alaskan Brewing sales operations manager Jon Blakley. “Due to the high demand from our crew and faithful consumers, however, we are happy to say that this will not be the ‘last Frontier’ for this great beer.” Alaskan ESB has a history almost as long and diverse as Alaskan Brewing Co. It was created on the brewery’s 10 barrel brewing system nearly 20 years ago as a seasonal release called Autumn Ale. In 1995, Autumn Ale was re-released a year-round product called Alaskan Frontier Ale in honor of the Alaska state nickname, “the Last Frontier.” Frontier Ale quickly became the crew favorite as it was the hoppiest Alaskan beer that was available on a regular basis,” says Alaskan Brewing Plant Manager Curtis Holmes. The recipe for Alaskan Frontier Ale, under its various names and formats, won more than 20 national and international awards for quality since its introduction in 1989.
