Press Release
Concert tickets are available for $17 in advance at the Alaskan Brewery and Hearthside books or $25 at the door. Concertgoers that bring their own 14-16oz beer glass will receive a $2 discount on the at-the-door ticket price. All proceeds from ticket and Alaskan beer sales will be donated directly to the Coastal CODE, www.CoastalCODE.org, a nonprofit initiative founded by Alaskan Brewing that provides grants for activities supporting the cleanup and preservation of the Pacific Ocean and its coastlines. The Coastal CODE’s primary source of funding is from a percentage of proceeds from the sale of Alaskan IPA and Coastal CODE t-shirts. Since the summer of 2007, the Coastal CODE has awarded more than $50,000 in grant monies to organizations and individuals for cleanup and awareness projects from San Diego, California to Seward, Alaska. Local nonprofit groups including the Juneau Watershed Partnership (JWP), the Marine Conservation Alliance Foundation and Turning the Tides (TTT) have received funding from the Coastal CODE for cleanup programs. Representatives from the Coastal CODE, JWP and TTT will be on hand at the concert to distribute trash bags and gloves for the 2009 International Coastal Cleanup Day happening the next morning. Juneau-ites are invited to join the more 400,000 people who last year collected more than 6.8 million pounds of trash in 105 countries as part of the Ocean Conservancy’s 24th Annual International Cleanup Event, the world’s largest volunteer effort of its kind. This year’s participants are to meet at Sandy Beach or Auke Rec on September 19 between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. Organizations that would like to reserve an alternate beach for their group to clean up can contact the Juneau Watershed Partnership at [email protected] or sign up at the concert at Centennial Hall on September 18. All International Coastal Cleanup participants will receive a complimentary beverage of their choice at the 2009 Autumn Festival at the JACC after the cleanup.
