Press Release
Alaskan Brewing Company won two medals for excellence at the 2000 Brewing Industry International Awards, often dubbed the "Oscars" of the brewing industry, in London, England. Alaskan Stout and Alaskan Smoked Porter earned medals at the competition. Alaskan Stout won a gold medal in their division of the International Dark, Milds, Stouts and Porters Category. This is the first major win for Alaskan Stout, which edged out a beer from a Dublin brewery to earn the gold medal. Alaskan Smoked Porter won a Silver medal in their division of the International Specialty Beers Category. This year there were 732 beers entered in 20 classes of beers. In total, only 60 medals were awarded. The event, established in the late 19th century, is organized by Brewing Technology Services, Ltd. of London. According to the event sponsors, the awards represent an "international marquee of excellence on a winning brewer, the brewing team and the brand."
