Press Release
JUNEAU - Alaskan Brewing Company continued its winning streak at major beer competitions today by earning two gold medals for its beers at the World Beer Cup Awards Gala in New York City. Alaskan is the only craft brewery in the Pacific Northwest to garner two golds. Alaskan Extra Special Bitter won a gold medal in the English-Style Strong Bitter category. This is the first international medal for Alaskan ESB. Alaskan Smoked Porter continued to win critical acclaim by winning a gold medal in the Smoke Flavored Beer Category. This is the third medal for Alaskan Smoked Porter at the World Beer Cup. "We are very honored to be recognized with gold medals on the international level," says Alaskan's Lead Brewer, Brent Kesey. “We take personal pride in every batch we brew and this serves as a reminder that we make quality products consistently.” The World Beer Cup International Competition is a global event recognizing excellence in 70 traditional and emerging beer style categories with gold, silver and bronze awards. The gold medal, according to the World Beer Cup, is awarded to “a world-class beer that accurately exemplifies the specified style, displaying the proper balance of taste, aroma and appearance.” Michael Jackson, a world renowned beer expert and author of many books about beer throughout the world, says that “no other worldwide competition for beer is remotely as well judged” as the World Beer Cup. The Sleeping Lady Brewery in Anchorage, Alaska also put in a strong showing by bringing home a Silver Medal for their Urban Wilderness Pale Ale in the Classic English-Style Pale Ale category. This is the second international competition to honor Alaskan Brewing Company in the last two months. In April, Alaskan Stout and Alaskan Smoked Porter brought home gold and silver respectively from the Brewing Industry International Awards in London. The Alaskan Brewing Company also produces Alaskan Amber, Alaskan Pale and Alaskan Stout year round in addition to a distinguished line of seasonal beers. Founded in 1986, the Juneau-based brewery is distributed throughout Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Northern California. #### For More Information Contact: Kristi Monroe (907) 780-5866 © Copyright 1997 - 2003 by the Alaskan Brewing Company |
