Press Release
The 18th Annual San Francisco International Beer Festival awarded top honors to the nation's finest beers, including Alaskan Brewing's Alaskan Amber. The Festival Pavilion at Fort Mason Center was the gathering spot for a public tasting of more than one hundred different beers presented by more than 70 brewers. Alaskan Amber walked away with the award for Best Amber. In addition,Alaskan Amber was honored as the first people's choice award winner for Best Overall Beer. "This is a fairly upscale beer-drinking crowd. They average 25 to 35 years of age, generally a well-heeled, sophisticated crowd of beer-drinkers," said Paul Scott the festival's coordinator. "The [Best Overall Beer] decision was made by the attendees. Alaskan Amber was selected first among all of them. You can't do much better," he added. Alaskan Amber is based on a Gold Rush Era recipe used during the turn-of-the-century in the Juneau area to quench the thirst of gold miners. Alaskan Brewing is the longest operating brewery in the Last Frontier, celebrating its 15th anniversary this year.
