Alaskan Brewing Company captured its 24th medal at the prestigious Great American Beer Festival today in Denver, Colorado.

JUNEAU - Alaskan Brewing Company captured its 24th medal at the prestigious Great American Beer Festival today in Denver, Colorado.

Alaskan E.S.B. won a bronze medal for excellence in the English Special Strong Bitter Category. With this years award, Alaskan Brewing continues to lead small breweries in total medals received and trails only Anheuser-Busch and Coors for the most medals overall since the inception of the festival in 1983.

A perennial favorite at the festival, Alaskan ESB now has a total of 7 medals to its credit from the Great American Beer Festival (GABF). Just last year, Alaskan ESB was recognized internationally with a Gold medal at the 2001 World Beer Cup.

"Our beers are developing quite a rich history by being repeat medal winners," said Alaskan Co-founder, Marcy Larson. “We couldn't be prouder to be recognized for our consistency and our quality. It’s a real credit to all our staff to be brewing quality beers year after year, after year.”

The Great American Beer Festival is considered by many in the industry to be the “Olympics” of American breweries. The festival this year had over 1900 beers competing in 55 categories. A professional panel of brewers, industry members, writers and beer experts judge the beers in a series of blind tastings.

Celebrating 15 years of brewing world class beer, Alaskan Brewing has been winning awards since 1987. The Juneau-based brewery produces Alaskan Amber, Pale, ESB, and Stout year round. Alaskan Winter Ale and Smoked Porter make regular fall and winter appearances in limited amounts. Distribution extends throughout the Pacific Northwest, encompassing Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Northern California and Northern Nevada.
