Press Release
With its newest medal from the Great American Beer Festival awarded this Saturday, Alaskan Brewing Company continues its twelve year winning streak. Since first competing in 1987, the Juneau-based brewery has been honored with 22 medals. This places them in the top three GABF medal winners. The top slot is currently held by Anheuser-Busch with 32 medals while Coors holds second with 24. The most recent medals were presented this weekend in Denver, Colorado at the three-day festival. "But if you think the larger breweries are worried, think again!" says Marcy Larson, co-founder of Alaskan Brewing Company. "In just three hours, they produce more beer than Alaskan has brewed in the last twelve years. What the streak really proves is Alaskan brews consistent quality and has for the last twelve years." With a healthy perspective, Alaskan Brewing Company has earned their place among the top medal winners in what is considered the premier beer competition in the nation. This year, 75 judges awarded 150 medals from a field of 1,896 beers, three of which are coming home to Alaska. Alaskan Brewing Company was awarded the bronze medal for their Alaskan Pale in the Golden Ale category. This is the fourth GABF medal for the Alaskan Pale which received silver in 1996 and bronze in 1993 and 1997 in the Golden Ale category. In September it was awarded an honorable mention in the World Beer Cup. Bringing home their first two GABF medals and silver to boot is the Snow Goose Brewery for Wilderness Pale Ale in the Classic English-Style Pale Ale category and Portage Porter in the Robust Porter category. Mike Hartman, brewmaster for Snow Goose Brewery, was on hand to accept the honors. "This reaffirms that the brewing industry in Alaska is strong and brewing beers competitively with the best in the nation. It was great to have Mike from the Goose celebrating with us in Denver," said Geoff Larson, co-founder of Alaskan Brewing Company. The Alaskan Brewing Company is Alaska's oldest continuously operating brewery, founded in 1986. It brews Alaskan Amber, Alaskan Pale, Alaskan Frontier, Alaskan Stout and vintage Smoked Porter distributed throughout Alaska, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Northern California.
