Beers For Birds
Nov 3, 1999, 08:41
Alaskan Brewing Company raised over $1400 in 5 hours for the Juneau Raptor Center. Alaskan donated 100% of the proceeds from its beer garden at the Juneau Empire's Food Fest '99 to the Juneau Raptor Center's building fund.
Alaskan Brewing's beer garden featured the new Arctic Brown Ale from their Rough Draft series and offered a sneak preview of this year's batch of Smoked Porter. The 5000 people attending the event had an opportunity to partake in lots of fine food from area restaurants and meet Kira, a peregrine falcon from the Juneau Raptor Center.
Each year, many raptors, like Kira, fall victim to disease, power lines, malnutrition and other calamities. This is where the Juneau Raptor Center, and others throughout Southeast Alaska, steps in. The non-profit organization is dedicated to the treatment, rehabilitation and release of injured or sick birds of prey in Southeast Alaska. The center also provides educational information about these magnificent creatures to students, residents and visitors.
The Juneau Raptor Center is currently raising money to help build a permanent facility. The rehabilitation center will include a medical facility and a flight mew, used to build a bird's strength before being released into the wild. Birds of prey include owls, eagles, falcons and goshawks.
It takes a dedicated team to keep the doors of the Juneau Raptor Center open and caring for the great birds of prey, such as the majestic bald eagle, that roams the skies of Southeast Alaska. Alaskan supports the efforts and goals of the Juneau Raptor Center and encourages anyone who wants to help to contact Kristi Monroe at the brewery at (907) 780-5866.
