Alaskan Brewing Co an Official Sponsor of the Last Great Race

JUNEAU, ALASKA – Alaskan Brewing is proud to be an official sponsor of the 2009 Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race®. This historic sled dog race from Anchorage to Nome embraces the adventurous spirit of what it means to “live life Alaskan.”

The Alaskan Brew Crew are no strangers to overcoming the challenges of the remote Alaskan landscape, making Alaskan Brewing a natural partner for the “Last Great Race.” Since 1986, Alaskan has been brewing and bottling all of its beer in Juneau, Alaska, and brewing in Alaska is far from easy. In the coastal community of Juneau, surrounded by the 1,500-square-mile Juneau ice field and the icy waters of the Inside Passage, there are no road connections to the lower 48 states. Everything arrives and leaves by air or water and the weather always has the last word.

The Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race® challenges the mushers and their teams as they race against the elements and cross over two of North America’s tallest mountain ranges along the more than 1,150 miles from Anchorage to Nome.

“The Iditarod is an event that is so unique to Alaska it draws people from all over the world,” says Alaskan’s Brand Manager Cindy Burchfield, “It represents the spirit of volunteerism and celebrates the long history of dog sledding in Alaska.”

More than 100 ambitious teams will kick off the race this year on March 7, in Anchorage, Alaska. Alaskan Brewing Co. is inviting fans to send off the mushers and their supporters in style with pint night specials on Alaskan Beer at select retail locations in Anchorage, during the week leading up to the race.
