Alaskan Brewing Co. Brewmaster Co-authors Smoked Beers

JUNEAU - Alaskan Brewing Company is pleased to be a part of the first-ever book on brewing smoked beers to be released in mid-March with Alaskan Brewmaster, Geoff Larson, as co-author.

It's no secret that Geoff Larson is knowledgeable about smoked beers – after all, Alaskan Brewing’s Smoked Porter has been credited with an American revival in smoked beers. Produced in 1989, the Smoked Porter was based on Alaska’s historical method of creating roasted malt in the early 1900s. Larson teamed up with Ray Daniels, a veteran craftbrewer and author, to produce Smoked Beers as a part of Brewers Publications Classic Beer Style Series.

Smoked Beers is not just for brewers. Fans of smoked foods and beers will discover the little known history and evolution of the use of smoke in food and drink. Cooking with smoked beers has also been included, with ten national and international recipes.

The book covers wood, fire, and the chemistry of smoke that will enhance the reader’s understanding of why we perceive smoke flavors and the effect smoke has on food and drink. And of course, there are brewing recipes for home and commercial brewers with which to experiment.

Geoff Larson is co-founder, with his wife Marcy, of Alaskan Brewing Company in Juneau, Alaska where they live. Ray Daniels lives in Chicago, Illinois and is a best-selling author of four books on beer and brewing.
