ALASKAN SMOKED PORTER SCORES AT NORTH AMERICAN BEER AWARDS
Jun 11, 2001, 09:16
JUNEAU - The North American Brewers Association (NABA) awarded Alaskan Smoked Porter a silver medal June 2 at the Best in the West Competition in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
Competing with hundreds of beers from all over the United States, Alaskan Brewing Company was honored for the 5th time in as many years at the festival. All proceeds from the competition are directed to a local charity.
The competition's awards are decided on by a series of blind judging panels. Beers are poured in separate rooms and then tasted in a series of flights by the category judges. Judges represent professionals, beer writers and certified beer judges. A minimum of four judges for each category rank the top beers awarding gold, silver and bronze medals.
The North American Brewers Association is a non-profit foundation. The NABA mission is to secure beer’s role in our culture and society through the advancement of brewing quality and consumer education.
Alaskan Brewing Company distributes award-winning beers and ales throughout Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Northern California. Founded in 1986, Alaskan Brewing Company is the oldest operating brewery in the State of Alaska and is celebrating its 15th Anniversary. The Juneau-based brewery also brews Alaskan Amber, Pale, ESB and Stout year round.
