Alaskan Smoked Porter Arrives November 1
Oct 19, 1998, 12:31

The 1998 Alaskan Smoked Porter will don the shelves this holiday season beginning November 1st.

What started as a whisper at the Great American Beer Festival (GABF) in 1988 has grown to a roar from the market place for more Alaskan Smoked Porter. The first time it was available at the GABF the quantity was so limited it was kept under the table and served only to those who asked.

One sip and beer enthusiasts couldn't keep quiet about this new smoked delight all the way from Juneau, Alaska. Pretty soon the booth was flooded with people quietly whispering "Smoked" so as not to attract too many others who might consume the limited supply.

It took the silver medal that year in the Porter category and went on to take the gold in 1992, 1993, 1994 and 1995 in the Smoked Beer category. It also took the silver medal in the Smoked Beer category in 1990, 1996, and 1997. The Alaskan Smoked POrter remains the most award winning beer in the history of the GABF.

Alaskan Smoked Porter has been credited with helping inspire an American revival of smoked beers. This unique beer is brewed with malt smoked over alder wood at a local smokery in Juneau. The dark, robust body and pronounced smoky flavor of this limited edition beer make it an adventuresome taste experience. Alaskan Smoked Porter is produced in limited vintages each year and, unlike most beer, may be aged in the bottle like a fine wine.

The 1998 Alaskan Smoked Porter will don the shelves this holiday season beginning November 1st. This is the second year for expanded distribution into markets in Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Northern California.
