Alaskan Brewing Co. is proud to be an official sponsor of the 2007 Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race^®. It's fitting that Alaskan Amber is the official beer of the Iditarod, because both the beer and the race offer a taste of Alaska's frontier past.

The Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race® was founded in 1973 to pay tribute to the Alaskan husky and the importance of dogs for winter transportation in Alaska. Dog teams were especially important during the Gold Rush era of the early 1900s, hauling supplies to remote camps. Alaskan Amber also pays tribute to that era. Alaskan Brewing's flagship brew is based on a recipe that quenched the thirst of hardy gold miners in 1907. So enjoying an Alaskan Amber at the Iditarod is a fitting way to honor Alaska's rich history. Alaskan Amber will be the beer of choice at the opening and closing banquets in Anchorage and Nome, Alaska.

More than 100 teams of mushers will hit the Iditarod trail March 3 in Anchorage. The 2007 field of 104 mushers boasts the most rookies, with 40 competing for the first time in the grueling 1,150-mile race.

Alaskan Brewing loves sharing the excitement and the fun of "The Last Great Race on Earth" with consumers. Alaskan Big Nugget tapped
at Great Alaska Beer and Barley Wine Festival

Alaskan Brewing Co. is excited to release its 2006 Alaskan Big Nugget Barley Wine at the 11^thannual Great Alaska Beer and Barley Wine Festival Jan. 19 and 20 at the William A. Egan Convention Center in downtown Anchorage. This festival is the premier beer event in the state, and it is growing and gaining more recognition each year. The event draws entries and guests from all over the country.

Alaskan Big Nugget is aged in the 500-foot tunnel that used to house the crushed rock handling chutes and conveyors when gold was mined in the 1930s. The cool tunnels provided a great place to store beer before the days of refrigeration. Big Nugget is brewed in the spring, cellared in the mine for the summer and retrieved in time for its release at the Great Alaska Beer and Barley Wine Festival each year.

Alaskan Brewing is also a proud participant in the American Homebrewers Association (AHA) Membership Rally at 5 p.m. Jan. 18 at the Snow Goose Restaurant in Anchorage. Alaskan Brewing Co-owner and Brewmaster Geoff Larson, beer writer Carolyn Smagalski (a k a The Beer Fox) and Anheuser-Busch Senior Brewmaster George Reisch are the guest speakers.

"I'm really excited about this rally. I feel like a beer evangelist preaching to the choir, because I enjoy sharing my love of beer," Larson said. "As a homebrewer myself, I feel a special kinship with homebrewers. They share my passion - and they make great beer."

Alaskan Summer Ale: Get it while it's hot

Nothing refreshes the palate quite like Alaskan Summer Ale. The popular seasonal beer will be released March 1.

Alaskan Summer Ale balances a softly malted palate with the crispness of European and Pacific Northwest hops. Consumers find the easy drinkability of this kölsch-style beer an enjoyable way to celebrate summer, as reflected in 2006 sales, which posted 17.6 percent growth over 2005.

During the summer of 2006, Alaskan Summer Ale was available for the first time onboard Alaska Airlines, and sales surpassed all expectations. "Our customers embraced our serving of Alaskan Amber, and they responded just as well to the introduction of Alaskan Summer Ale," said Dan Jordan, Director of Onboard Food and Beverage Service for Alaska Airlines. "We're excited to re-introduce this uniquely Alaskan beer aboard for another busy summer travel season."

Alaskan Summer Ale pairs well with delicately flavored foods like fresh, wild Alaskan crab or halibut and as an accompaniment to salads. Like summer, Alaskan Summer Ale doesn't last all year, so get it while you can.
