Alaskan Summer Black Bean and Moose Sausage Soup

Methods/steps Cook bacon in a skillet; drain bacon and cut into tiny pieces. Saute onion, celery, garlic, carrots, basil, cumin, cayenne and salt in a Dutch oven until onion is transparent. Add bacon, moose sausage, beef bouillon and black beans. Simmer for a couple of hours, then add Alaskan Summer Ale.

Before thermometers were invented, brewers would dip a thumb into the mix to find the right temperature for adding yeast. Too cold, and the yeast wouldn't grow. Too hot, and the yeast would die. This became known as rule of thumb.
