Ice Cream With a Punch (Beer Ice Cream)
Ingredients
Desserts
  • 1 (12oz.) bottle Alaskan Oatmeal Stout
  • 2 tbsp. dark molasses
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1/3 c sugar
  • ½ tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 c. whole milk
  • 1 c. heavy cream
  •

    Methods/steps
In a small sauce pan, simmer the Alaskan Oatmeal Stout to burn off the alcohol. After 15 minutes, measure 2/3 cup beer and discard the rest. Return beer to pan and stir in molasses. Bring to a boil and then immediately remove from heat.

In large glass mixing bowl, combine the egg yolks with the sugar and vanilla. Whisk together well. Next, stir in the milk and the cream.

Slowly pour the beer mixture into the milk mixture, combining thoroughly. It should take on the samecoloring as the froth on a shot of espresso.

Cover the mixture and refrigerate at least two hours, although overnight will allow the flavors to best intermingle.

Pour the mixture into an electric ice cream maker and follow ice cream maker’s instructions. After mixing, allow several hours for ice cream to further solidify.

It's clear from the Mayflower's log that beer was the reason the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock. The crew didn't want to waste beer looking for a better site, so they hastened the passengers ashore for water so the seamen might have more beer.
