 Winter Apple Spice Cake

· 1 box spice cake mix · 1 1/3 cup Winter Ale · 1/3 cup vegetable oil · 3 eggs · 1.5 cups peeled, cored and chopped Granny Smith apples · ¾ cup chopped pecans Methods/steps Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix cake mix, beer, oil and eggs with mixer for 2 minutes. Fold in 1 cup apples and ½ cup pecans. Pour in to greased and floured baking pan. Bake for 17 minutes. Top with ½ cup apples and ¼ cup pecans. Lightly press in to cake. Bake for 15 minutes more or until toothpick comes out clean. |
   
It's clear from the Mayflower's log that beer was the reason the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock. The crew didn't want to waste beer looking for a better site, so they hastened the passengers ashore for water so the seamen might have more beer.
