So, how do you cook with beer?
The simple rule is...there are no rules (well, okay,
never cook with a beer you wouldn’t drink)! Experiment, experiment, experiment.
Here are some ideas, discover the possibilities:
- Many people just add a dash or a bottle to finish
off a soup, stew, sauce or de-glaze a pan.
- Try substituting beer for all or part of a liquid
in a recipe.
- Try heavier beers like Stouts and Porters with heavier
foods and lighter flavored beers like Pale and Amber with more delicately
flavored dishes.
- Reducing beer concentrates the flavors, including
the bitterness of hops. Make sure you adjust the recipe to add fruit
or something with a touch of sweetness to balance that out.
- Steam, poach or marinate seafood with your favorite
beer and combination of spices.
As with pairing, the flavor of beer should complement
and not overpower what you are cooking. The Brew Crew has successfully made
desserts, salad dressings, smoked salmon dip, ice cream, stuffed mushrooms,
paella, soups, sauces and stroganoff. Dare to be different, try something
new and let the creative juices and beer flow! Bon Appetit!
