Tailgate Alaska started in 2008 with a group of backcountry snowboarding legends who set up camp with one tent, a limited budget and some Alaskan Beer for three weeks at the base of Thompson Pass near Valdez, Alaska. In just three years, Tailgate AK has resurrected the World Freeriding Competition and grown to an international event, attracting professional athletes, Olympians, media and snowboarding enthusiasts from all over the world.
No matter the budget, riders with the dream of riding Alaska will come together for a few weeks this spring to hike, drive and fly out of this temporary village to access some of the most epic terrain in the world, and end their days reliving their adventures over a beer with a "taste of Alaska."
