Your life will never be the same once you connect with Leo. "Life is too short to be bored," says Leo. "You have to enjoy what time you have. You have to share with others, have a positive attitude and learn to have fun with life." That love of life just emanates from Leo in everything he does. Subsisting on a maximum five hours of sleep nightly, Leo is very involved in the community. "I want to dance, I want to laugh. It all just comes from the core of me. I want to share it all." He once dreamed of being a psychologist but chance found him a home at Alaskan Brewing. Leo has worked in most areas of production, filtration and brewing over the past decade. Visitors to the Alaskan Brewing Co. will have an idea of what beer is being filtered by noting the color of his uniform that corresponds to a color of each beer label. He wears red when Amber and ESB are in the lineup, blue for Pale, orange for Stout and Summer Ale. "I love the opportunity I have here, and I really appreciate the flexibility that allows me to remain involved in the community." And involved would be an understatement! In addition to his weekly radio program, he teaches Spanish to children, coaches children's soccer and has played in the adult soccer league for seven years. "I discovered if you can teach, provide love and make it fun, you bring out the best in every one of them." Leo brings out the best in the Brew Crew and is an integral part of Alaskan Brewing. Born and raised at the base of the Andes in Chile, Leo learned to love the outdoors. He later obtained a certificate in auto mechanics, but under the Pinochet regime he found it difficult to find a job. He started selling his bicycle in pieces, then working with importers and direct selling. Eventually he landed a position as a purchasing and distribution manager at a school where he met his future wife who was a guest teacher from America. From Chile to Alaska, there are few changes as extreme. Leo just keeps forging ahead, laughing and enjoying every moment and sharing that thirst for life with all of us here at Alaskan Brewing Co.
