We're joining downtown Juneau!
With the opening of our year-round Alaskan Depot in early May
Alaskan Brewing joins downtown Juneau
Local brewery to open year-round "Depot" in early May
JUNEAU, Alaska (February 10, 2010) - Alaskan Brewing Co. is planning to open up a year-round destination retail location in downtown Juneau in early May. The Alaskan Brewing Depot will be located in the historical 1920s era Cheney Building, most recently recognized as the former home of Galligaskins, which was in operation there for over 20 years.
"We are proud to bring a locally owned, locally operated business that will be open year-round to the downtown community," said Alaskan Brewing General Manager, Linda Thomas, "especially to this location, which has continuously been the home of Alaskan based businesses since its original construction."
The downtown store venue will serve as a hub or "depot," providing easy directions and transportation recommendations to those looking to visit the Alaskan Brewery where it all started or offering a "virtual visit" for visitors that are not able to make it out to Lemon Creek while in Juneau. Tours, tastings and beer sales will continue at the brewery as they have in years past.
The Alaskan Brew Crew is working furiously to have the new space ready by early May. However, with the summer season rapidly approaching, Alaskan expects that the Depot will primarily be a retail venue in its first year with the opportunity for occasional specialty tasting and other events throughout the year. While they will not be offering samples at the new downtown location in its first year, Thomas says they are not ruling anything out for future of the Depot. "We have a lot of fun ideas and a lot of room to grow."
In addition to expanding their line of Alaskan Brewing clothing and beer gear, the new location will allow Alaskan to offer other products made in Alaska by Alaskan companies, an endeavor included in the company's mission statement: "To Showcase Quality-Oriented Manufacturing in Alaska."
"Many people do not realize all that it takes to manufacture a product in Alaska," explains Alaskan co-founder Marcy Larson. "We are in the business of making beer, but you wouldn't believe what it takes to get to the finished product."
Thomas agrees, "This downtown location will help us share our story, our challenges, our world-class beers and the state we choose to call home with the thousands of visitors Juneau welcomes from all over the world."
