Juneau, Alaska (October 3, 2011) - Alaskan Brewing Co. was awarded a silver and bronze medal last weekend at the world's largest commercial beer competition, the 30th annual Great American Beer Festival (GABF) in Denver, Colorado.

Alaskan Pale A
le took Silver in the Golden or Blonde Ale category, making this the 7th medal awarded at the GABF for this longtime favorite Alaskan brew. And Alaskan Smoked Porter took the bronze in the Smoke Beer category, maintaining its reign as the festival's highest award-winner with 20 medals since 1988. Both beers were chosen in their respective categories, from the largest field of entries ever experienced in the competition.

"This is our 24th year at the GABF and somehow winning gets more exciting every year," said Alaskan Brewery co-Founder Marcy Larson on hearing the awards announcement. A record number of entries, up eleven percent to nearly 4,000, heightened the competition at the 2011 event. "With so many exceptional beers and breweries out on the market now, it is fantastic to see two of our original Alaskan products recognized as of the highest quality. What a wonderful way to celebrate our 25th Anniversary!"

This year, 526 breweries from all over the country came together at the premier U.S. brewing industry event to vie for gold, silver and bronze in 83 beer-style categories. 167 professional brewers and industry experts from 9 countries judged the 3,930 beers entered in the competition. According to the Brewers Association, more than 49,000 beer enthusiasts from Colorado, the United States, and around the world attended this year's sold-out GABF, which was held at the 188,000 square-foot Colorado Convention Center in Denver. Those attending the three-day festival were offered one-ounce samples from largest collection of U.S. beers ever assembled.

Alaskan was the only brewery from Alaska to bring home a 2011 GABF medal for the 49th state. The Smoked Porter medal comes just in time for the 2011 release of this vintage dated beer on November 1.
