Alaskan Brew Crew raises $17,000 for Hospice & Home Care of Juneau
December 2011, Juneau, Alaska - Each year the Alaskan Brew Crew selects a local nonprofit organization as the beneficiary of all of their tasting bar tips and fundraising efforts, but being that 2011 was the Alaskan Brewery's 25th anniversary, this year's selected nonprofit was given a little extra.
Through several new fundraising events and the continued success of the tasting bar tip jar program, the Alaskan Brewing Company was able to donate a record $17,000 to Hospice and Home Care of Juneau.
A majority of the funds came from a year's worth of tips collected in a modest tip jar from the generous customers and crew at the Brewery tasting bar. Some tippers knew where their money was going when they dropped a dollar into the jar, while others may have thought it was going to the big smiles and knowledgeable crew serving up samples behind the bar. Every penny collected went directly to Hospice & Home Care for their invaluable work providing quality end-of-life, bereavement and home care support services to patients, families and the community, including those without insurance or another payer source.
In 2011, two new incredibly fun and successful fundraising events put on by the Brewery added nearly $8000 to the jar. The High Gravity Games, held last March at the Eaglecrest Ski Area raised nearly $3000, and November's "No Umbrellas" Alaska-style fashion show fundraiser brought in over $5000.
Past recipients of the tip jar proceeds include the Glory Hole in 2010, Southeast Alaska Food Bank in 2009, the AWARE Shelter in 2008, Cancer Connection in 2007, the Gastineau Humane Society in 2006. The Brew Crew just selected the Red Cross of Southeast Alaska as the 2012 recipient.
The Alaskan Brewing Company has a long history of community involvement and local support. They provide in-kind donations to dozens of local and regional organizations throughout the year, in addition to the tip jar donation program, one of the Brewery's only direct monetary donations. The other recipient is the Coastal CODE (Clean Oceans Depend on Everyone), a nonprofit grant funding organization dedicated to the health and sustainability of the Pacific Ocean and its coastlines, that is funded through 1% of proceeds from Alaskan IPA.
