Trail Mix, Local Trail Stewards, Chosen to Share in Brewery’s Fundraising Efforts

trailmixxJUNEAU, Alaska (March 7, 2014) – Alaskan Brewing Company has chosen Trail Mix Inc. to be the beneficiary of many of its fundraising efforts for 2014. The brewery has a tradition of choosing a new non-profit partner every year.

“The choice is made completely by our crew through a voting process,” said Andy Kline, Communications Manager for the brewery. “We start with a list of local non-profits, and then every crew member votes for the one they would most like to see receive our donation for the coming year.”

Last year, Alaskan Brewing was able to donate over $24,000 to the non-profit chosen for 2013, Southeast Alaska Independent Living (SAIL), through the proceeds of a number of charity events and through the donation of the brewery’s gift shop tip jar. Past non-profit partners have included the Red Cross, The Glory Hole, Southeast Alaskan Food Bank, AWARE, Cancer Connection, the Gastineau Humane Society, Hospice & Homecare of Juneau and SEADOGS.

“Our crew has a tough job every year deciding which organization to sponsor,” said Kline. “There are so many deserving non-profits here in Juneau, representing so many people working to make this a great community. It’s part of what makes this such a wonderful place to live and, of course, make beer!”

Alaskan Brewing also donates to many other non-profit organizations through the year by contributing beer and merchandise for fundraising efforts that range from arts to health care to sporting events. The mission of Trail Mix is to be the steward of a safe and enjoyable trails system by bringing people and resources together for trail improvements and activities.

“We’re excited by the possibilities this significant contribution will have for our operation in the coming year,” said Trail Mix Executive Director Erik Borass. “We’ve got a lot of work ahead of us this year, with major improvement projects on Treadwell Trail, Outer Point Trail and many others. Having the support of Alaskan Brewing is going to be a great boost to our restoration and maintenance efforts.”

The first major brewery sponsored event that will raise funds for Trail Mix will be a beer garden at this year’s Slush Cup at Eaglecrest, coming up April 12. For more information about Trail Mix, or to sign up to become a member, go to juneautrails.org.
