History

Alaskan Husky IPA is based on a small batch SMaSH Mosaic IPA recipe using a single malt and single hop to explore the specific desired characteristics of certain malts and hops. Hop varieties are often best known for either bittering properties or for high aromatics and complex flavors. The Mosaic hop is an example of a hop that can bring both elements to a beer.

First released in 2012 as an experimental variety by Hop Breeding Company, Mosaic is a daughter of Simcoe and Nugget varieties.

The Story Behind the Label

Husky IPA is inspired by the hardest working athletes of the North, the Alaskan Husky. Not considered a pure breed, the Alaskan Husky is defined only by its purpose—a highly efficient sled dog. They are a blend of various northern breeds originating from Alaska Native villages, chosen particularly for skills such as running and pulling. Alaskan Huskies compete in long distance races from 50 to 1,000 miles, or in the case of the annual Iditarod Sled Dog Race, a distance of 1,049 miles. None of the purebred northern breeds can match if for sheer speed. Like the racers it’s named for, Husky IPA will be gone before you know it, so catch it while you can.
