Alaskan Brewing’s Coastal CODE Grant Application Deadline January 31
Grant program continues 15 years of commitment to environmental stewardship
NOVEMBER 17, 2023 (JUNEAU, Alaska) – After more than 15 years of commitment to improving the health of coastlines and waterways, Alaskan Brewing is accepting applications for the 2024 round of Coastal CODE (Clean Oceans Depend on Everyone) grants.
Alaskan Brewing commits a portion of the proceeds of Icy Bay IPA toward Coastal CODE, which provides grants to organizations and projects that promote the health of oceans and waterways.
Alaska’s 6,500 miles (about twice the width of the United States) of rugged coastline was the original inspiration for Coastal CODE, an initiative to protect coasts and waterways since 2008. Coastal CODE grants fund community projects that promote the health of oceans and waterways.
Coastal CODE partners with local organizations to host community cleanups across the Pacific Northwest and Alaska to increase the initiative’s hands-on community work.
Seattle-based nonprofit Puget Soundkeeper, which restores ecosystems and the communities that depend on Puget Sound, received a grant in 2023. “Funding from Coastal CODE allows us to remove debris from shared waterways around Puget Sound. Soundkeeper’s marine debris program, including beach, trail, and kayak cleanups as well as microplastic analysis, connects people to their environment in a way that makes a difference,” Teresa Nelson, Puget Soundkeeper Development Director, said.
“[The cleanup] also provides [volunteers] with a way to learn community science techniques they can carry forward in their personal and professional lives. Many of our volunteers who come out to our events later contact us about hosting their own cleanup events with their families, social groups, and coworkers.”
