Juneau-based brewery pursues adventure-bound consumers and convenience shoppers

March 23, 2023 (JUNEAU, Alaska) – Alaskan Brewing Company is expanding three of its award-winning beers into 19.2-ounce cans, Juneau Juice Hazy IPA, Icy Bay IPA, and Pilsner this spring. The Juneau, Alaska-based craft brewer is looking to appeal to their adventure-bound and new consumers in convenience and grocery stores across their 25-state distribution.

“Consumers can easily hike or camp with a 19.2 oz can while getting more punch with their drinks. We are taking advantage of the convenience market, and the opportunity with 19.2 oz cans is exciting,” said Merv Boyce, Alaskan Brewing Director of Sales and Marketing.

The expansion of 19.2 oz cans to Alaskan Brewing’s distribution compliments a pair of craft trends. IPA beers continue to be craft’s most popular style, and sales of 19.2-ounce cans have doubled over the last year according to IRI data. Alaskan Brewing also sees 19.2 oz products as a way to introduce more consumers to the brand without asking them to commit to a six- or 12-pack.

“The 19.2 oz cans make it easy for consumers to try Alaskan,” Boyce said. Additionally, the 19.2-ounce cans are appealing to on-premises venues and institutional accounts, such as stadiums, that offer single-serve packages.

Icy Bay IPA, Pilsner, and Juneau Juice Hazy IPA were selected to lead the charge into the new product line-up for their popularity and drinkability. “Within the state of Alaska, Icy Bay IPA is Alaskan Brewing Company’s second bestselling item, and the Pilsner has shown popularity with lighter beer drinkers. Juneau Juice Hazy IPA rounds out the lineup for being Alaskan Brewing’s latest year-round beer and a higher-octane IPA,” said Boyce.

Juneau Juice features a combination of Mosaic, Sultana, Strata, and Citra hops with a respectable 6.8 percent ABV, and is described as having a “juicy factor of a hazy but also the toasty, nutty, malt character of a West Coast IPA,” Alaskan Brewer Scotty McHenry said.

Juneau Juice Hazy IPA, Icy Bay IPA, and Pilsner 19.2 oz cans are now available in all current Alaskan Brewing Company markets. To find 19.2 oz cans near you visit our Beer Finder at www.alaskanbeer.com/find-our-beer/.
