Saturday opening debuts Alaskan Brewing Company’s first tasting room art showcase

March 3, 2023 (JUNEAU, Alaska) – Alaskan Brewing Company is excited to host local Juneau artist Shelly Marshall this month at the Tasting Room. On Saturday, March 4 at 3 p.m. Marshall will be in the Tasting Room selling original pieces, art prints, stickers, and more.

Alaskan Artist on Tap is a new series at the Alaskan Brewing Tasting Room that will feature local artists throughout the year in the Brewmaster’s Hall and event space. “There is so much creative energy and talent in our hometown and across Alaska that we wanted to give local artists a place to showcase their work. The expansion of our Tasting Room has finally given us that opportunity,” said Cindy Burchfield, Creative Project Manager.

“I’m so excited to be the first featured artist! And also really thankful, I hope it kicks off a good new tradition for the company and community,” said Marshall.

Marshall grew up in Florida loving the ocean and all things marine life, paired with her passion for math and science she attended school at the University of Tampa for Marine Biology. In 2019, her husband received orders from the Army to be stationed in Juneau.

Using acrylic on canvas, watercolor, and wood burning Marshall’s art is inspired by wildlife found in Southeast Alaska. The Saturday opening will feature “Looming Wolf” and “A Bear’s Paradise” from Marshall’s The Predator Series, and “Sunset Spawning Coho Salmon” which is a vibrant depiction of a Coho Salmon jumping from the water using acrylic on canvas.

“It’s hard to think of any part of Alaska that isn’t inspiring, but the unique wildlife and fisheries make it easy to think of new ideas. Alaska’s harsh climate and odd seasons cause marine life here to have unique characteristics that is fun to try and capture in my art,” said Marshall.

Historical images of the brewery’s 36-year history will also rotate this summer with local artists’ work on display this spring and throughout the fall and winter months.
